Cardiac amyloidosis: diagnosis using delayed enhancement cardiac magnetic resonance imaging sequences.

چکیده
Late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is very useful in distinguishing between myocardial infarction, in which the enhancement is typically subendocardial, and myocarditis, in which it is subepicardial (Figure 1). In addition, various patterns have been described with different cardiomyopathies, in some cases enabling a specific diagnosis without invasive workup and risk stratification. Cardiac amyloidosis was previously thought to be present only when systemic amyloidosis was patently manifest. This has proved not to be the case, with cardiac MRI detecting increasing numbers of cases in patients with diastolic heart failure in whom cardiac

Prognostic utility of late gadolinium enhancement on cardiac magnetic resonance in cardiac amyloidosis: a meta-analysis
Background Cardiac Amyloidosis (CA) is an important prognostic indicator in patients with systemic amyloidosis. Cardiac MRI has emerged as imaging modality of choice to evaluate patients with CA. Delayed hyper-enhancement cardiac magnetic resonance (DHE-CMR) provides incremental diagnostic and prognostic utility in suspected CA. We performed a meta-analysis to evaluate the prognostic role of LG...
متن کاملTypical cardiac magnetic resonance imaging findings of cardiac amyloidosis.
We report the case of a 62-year-old man who presented with shortness of breath, lower extremity edema and clinical signs of congestive heart failure. Transthoracic echocardiography demonstrated concentric left ventricular hypertrophy with severe diastolic dysfunction and biatrial enlargement. After aggressive diuresis and clinical improvement, a cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) examinat...
متن کاملCardiac Amyloidosis Determines the Prognosis of Systemic Amyloidosis; Roles and Responsibilities of Cardiologist
Cardiac amyloidosis is a prognostically critical condition, since it is a frequent cause of death in patients with systemic amyloidosis. Lee et al. reported, for the first time, describing systemic amyloidosis in Korea from the perspective of cardiologists. In this paper, the authors enrolled 129 systemic amyloidosis patients retrospectively from 1999 to 2011. They showed that cardiac involve w...
متن کاملRelationship between Late Gadolinium Enhancement Extent in Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Severity of Coronary Artery Disease in Old Myocardial Infarction
Purpose: To assess the relationship between the severity of coronary arteries involvement and the extent and pattern of myocardial scars in Cardiac Magnetic Resonance of patients with history of remote myocardial infarction. Materials and Methods: The Cardiac Magnetic Resonance images of sixty patients with history of remote ST segment or non-ST segment elevation myocardial infarction were ...
متن کاملRevisiting morphological features of cardiac amyloid with cardiac magnetic resonance
Background Cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) has become a cornerstone in the diagnosis of cardiac amyloid infiltration, not only due to the presence of typical post-contrast delayed enhancement but also because of accurate morphological characteritization. The aim of this study is to describe morphological features of cardiac amyloidosis by CMR and to establish their diagnostic accuracy. Methods...
